Our Story

Heritage, Passion and Soul.

Carpentry and woodworking has been the Middleton family trade for many generations - from houses to kitchens to intricate pieces of furniture - it’s in our blood.

We believe the kitchen is at the heart of every home, that our cabinetry should serve the function of the kitchen by being tailored specifically to your requirements. After Jasper’s own kitchen for the family cottage was featured in Country Homes and Interiors, interest in his work began to grow and gather speed.

We are proud of our heritage. We are passionate about our craft. We are Middleton.

  • 1980s

Jasper would spend lots of time at the family home in Rottingdean ‘painting’ outside walls with water!

Jasper’s first experience of life as a carpenter. He accompanies his father to work at his construction company during the school holidays and would soon start spending all his spare time at the family business

  • 1990s

Max follows in Jasper’s footsteps, helping his father and brother in the school holidays.

By now Jasper had started at Brighton College favouring Art and design subjects- many of his early carpentry efforts are still in the family home.

Jasper gains a 1st class honours degree in Fine Art and Antiques. Much of why Middleton kitchens look so grounded and comfortable when newly placed in an old barn, country house or traditional townhouse is due to Jasper’s education in the classical orders of architecture.

  • 2000

Jasper joins the family construction business full time. Under the same carpenter he worked alongside as a small boy, he serves his carpentry apprenticeship with craftsmen who have worked for his father for over 40 years.

  • 2005

Jasper is now a Project Manager with the family business. By 2007, the company has grown into a multi-million, large-scale property company where he is responsible for overseeing the running of the whole company - from acquisition to planning, design, construction and disposal.

Jasper was integral to many exciting projects such as building a new house on Brighton seafront, conversion of a synagogue and several luxury flat conversions.

  • 2006

Jasper meets his wife Gemma, who later becomes integral to the running of the business. They have two children.

  • 2008

Upon his father’s retirement and the contraction of the property market Jasper returns to what he loves, with Gemma’s encouragement – designing and making beautiful cabinetry.

  • 2009

Middleton Bespoke is born – formed from an unyielding passion for creativity and craft.

Following on from university Max joins Middleton, studying the intricacies of cabinetmaking under Jasper.
